As we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, mentors, and everyday heroes this month, we’re honored to spotlight a man who has spent nearly five decades helping others reconnect with the sounds that make life meaningful. For more than 46 years, Harlan Cato has served families across the Lake Norman region with compassion, expertise, and a genuine listening heart.

Nationally board-certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences (BC-HIS), Harlan’s career is his passion. Serving as President of the International Hearing Society and President of its North Carolina chapter, his leadership and dedication have helped advance hearing healthcare both locally and nationally.

For Harlan, his work is more than technology, it’s personal: “I’ve always believed listening is just as important as the treatments we offer,” he shares. “Helping someone hear again isn’t just about hearing aids, it’s about reconnecting them to the moments that matter most … conversations with family, laughter with friends, and the beautiful sounds of everyday life.”

Known for his patience, knowledge, and giving heart, Harlan has become a trusted resource for generations of families. Whether helping someone experience hearing aids for the first time or introducing the latest technology, he treats every patient with empathy and an exceptional level of care.
