Each November, we pause to honor the men and women whose courage, commitment, and sacrifice safeguard our freedoms. Among these remarkable individuals is Dr. Lindsay Montgomery, who proudly served as a Lieutenant O3 in the United States Navy Corps from 2003 to 2011.
Dr. Montgomery along with her sister, Dr. Kara Lembo, are the founders and owners of LemboMontgomery Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Mooresville. Celebrating 14 years in business, Dr. Montgomery’s path to service blended professional ambition with a deep call to duty—recognizing the Navy as a place to sharpen her clinical skills while leading others.
“It gave me a great opportunity,” she explains, “to gain valuable experience in the field of dentistry along with being in a leadership role that allowed me to work with all walks of life.”
When asked what stands out most from her eight years in uniform, Dr. Montgomery doesn’t hesitate. “The camaraderie among everyone who was serving was the best,” she recalls, “and that bond extended well beyond day-to-day duties. It was about trust, shared responsibility, and the unshakable sense of belonging to something greater than oneself.”
Military life also became a proving ground for personal growth. Learning about oneself to see what you are capable of, especially as a leader, remains one of her most enduring lessons. The Navy demanded adaptability and perseverance, qualities she now carries into every facet of her civilian and professional life.
Of course, service brought its challenges. Operational readiness was a constant priority. “Being prepared for operational deployment when called to do so,” Dr. Montgomery notes, “was no small task.” The responsibility of ensuring her team was always mission-ready weighed heavily. And like many service members, she faced the ache of separation: “Not being with your family when deployed overseas is the hardest sacrifice of all.”
Today, as a respected dentist and community member, Dr. Montgomery hopes Americans remember the character and resilience of those who serve. “All military personnel persevere in any job or task they take on, and they do it with dignity and strength,” she shares. “Everyone helps one another.”
This Veterans Day, we honor Dr. Lindsay Montgomery and all who have worn the uniform. Their sacrifice, service, and spirit remind us that the freedoms we cherish are safeguarded by ordinary citizens who choose an extraordinary path. In saluting Dr. Montgomery, we also salute every veteran whose steadfast dedication continues to inspire a grateful nation.
