A Deeper Connection

“I treat every patient like they’re my family and how I’d want my sister, brother, or grandmother to be treated,” Rebecca Thomason says with a smile. As a family nurse practitioner with Iredell Family Medicine in Mooresville, she has found her passion in life. “They become a part of you versus you just being their provider,” she continues. “You’re invested. For me, it has always been about forming connections. My goal is to help people navigate their healthcare journey and to understand them on a deeper level. Physical health is impacted by mental and spiritual health and vice versa. You can’t just treat one aspect; it’s a triangular approach.”

Finding Her Purpose

Growing up in Elmira, New York, Rebecca originally planned to become an attorney, studying political science in college before life pointed her in a different direction where she could fulfill a desire to help others more. Rebecca became a certified nursing assistant and licensed practical nurse before earning her registered nurse credentials in 2006. She cared for patients in cardiac stepdown units, emergency departments, and outpatient surgery centers across New York, Virginia, and the Delmarva region while continuing her education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing while working full-time before graduating as a family nurse practitioner in 2015 with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Outside the Office

Rebecca believes caring for herself is just as important as caring for others. She enjoys golfing, bowling, reading, and cheering for Alabama football alongside her husband. The couple also loves traveling, especially to warm-weather destinations throughout the Caribbean, with Grenada holding a special place in their hearts as their honeymoon destination. At home, they’re happily outnumbered by their three beloved dogs: Jameson, Ginger, and Callie.

Keep Growing

Looking back, Rebecca says one of her proudest accomplishments is putting herself through school. Yet despite everything she’s achieved, she’s still motivated by a desire to keep growing. “I always want to learn something new each day, whether about myself personally or my job. Every day is a chance to find new opportunities to improve.”
