When it comes to oral and maxillofacial surgery, it’s not just about precision and expertise—it’s about heart, trust, and connection. At Carolina Oral & Facial Surgery in Cornelius, those values come through clearly in the stories and shared vision of co-owners Dr. Michael Coleman and Dr. Michael Foran.

Their backgrounds are as unique as their bond is strong. Dr. Coleman, a proud North Carolina native, earned his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and went on to receive his doctorate in dental science from the University of Buffalo. His surgical training took him to Virginia Commonwealth University before he returned home to join his uncle, Dr. Patrick Coleman, at the Cornelius practice.

“It was important for me to be part of something meaningful—and to serve the community I love,” Dr. Coleman says. “This area has given me so much. It’s a privilege to give back.”

Dr. Foran’s journey began up north. Born in New York and raised on Long Island, he studied biology at Loyola College before completing dental school at Temple University and a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. It was there that his calling became clear.

“When I met wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, I realized the power of this field,” Dr. Foran recalls. “I witnessed how oral surgeons were critical to a soldier’s recovery—physically and emotionally. One of my patients, a Medal of Honor recipient, even invited me to the White House for his ceremony. Meeting the President that day was unforgettable but seeing that soldier thriving was the real honor.”

Both doctors are family men who credit their loved ones with much of their personal and professional fulfillment. Dr. Coleman has three sons—Jack, Patrick, and Cooper—and loves the outdoor lifestyle Lake Norman offers.

“I’m always outside—mountain biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, or chasing the kids around at their games,” he says with a laugh. “I try to live with a good balance. Work hard, play hard, and keep your priorities straight. I think that’s the secret to life.”

Dr. Foran shares a similar sentiment. He and his wife, Megan are raising two children, Erin and Liam, with the same appreciation for togetherness. “A perfect day for me is just being with my family,” he says. “Backyard grilling, a day at the lake, or a quick trip to the coast—I’m grateful for all of it. Father’s Day reminds me how blessed I truly am.”

Together, Drs. Coleman and Foran have built more than a practice. They’ve created a culture of care, compassion, and community. From serving patients with integrity to raising families with love, they’re not just helping people smile—they’re showing what it means to live with purpose.
