We all have moments when the mirror feels unfamiliar. Confidence wavers, and the way we carry ourselves begins to change. Hair loss can be one of those defining shifts. For Debby Long, President of Lake Norman Hair Loss Solutions in Mooresville, restoring that sense of recognition has been her calling—helping people return to a reflection that feels honest, familiar, and fully their own.

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Debby’s fascination with hair began in the salon chair beside her mother. “When I was a teenager,” she recalls, “I always enjoyed going to the hair salon with my mom.”

That early spark led her to her high school ROP Cosmetology program, earning her professional license at just 18. But it was her own struggle with hair loss in her early 20s that shaped her true mission. “At the time, hair loss solutions for women were extremely limited,” she says. “That inspired me to start my business in 1999 and ultimately become a master stylist, hair replacement designer, and alternative hair industry educator.”

Today, Debby and her husband Gary, who also works in the business, have helped thousands of men and women regain confidence with state-of-the-art non-surgical hair restoration. “Hair loss can be very embarrassing and emotional no matter your age, gender, or social status. Resolving someone’s hair loss issue is truly the most rewarding aspect of my job,” she smiles. “For our Guests who have sometimes hidden their hair loss for years, the transformation can feel almost like reclaiming a piece of themselves.”

Outside the office, Debby keeps her own life balanced and joyful. Monthly spa days, true crime novels, binge-watching a favorite TV series with Gary, and playing with their rescue dog Honeybear help her recharge. “A loving pet is good for the soul,” she says. “Travel also is a must for our wellbeing. Our 20th wedding anniversary in Hawaii was a lifelong dream, including swimming with dolphins. It was a truly magical experience!”

Life-changing events, from meeting Gary on a blind date 30 years ago to relocating 2,700 miles to North Carolina to open a second hair loss clinic, have shaped Debby’s resilience and perspective. Guided by her mantra, “I never lose, I learn,” she approaches every challenge with determination and grace.

For Debby, Gary, and their team, the work has always been about more than hair, it’s about the person in the chair and how they feel about themselves. Every Guest they meet becomes part of a space built on care, understanding, and compassion.

“We’ve lived it ourselves,” Debby says with empathy. “Our goal is simply to help people feel seen and supported. Sometimes it’s a new look, sometimes it’s just a listening ear but either way, we want them to leave feeling stronger, more confident, and ready to step back into their lives with a renewed sense of self.”

So, go ahead, take a peek in the mirror … you’re going to love it! Your reflection, your confidence, your SELF!
