In recognition of International Women’s Day, we shine a light this March on local women whose passion, perseverance, and compassion enrich our communities. Their influence reminds us that inspiration is often found not in grand gestures, but in everyday acts of service, leadership, and love. We are grateful for the many thoughtful submissions from our readers and honored to feature just a few of them here.
A devoted wife, mother, teacher, coach, and worship leader, Jennifer Quick has long been a steady source of encouragement to those around her. She and her husband, Brian, recently celebrated 12 years of marriage and are raising their two sons, Cooper and Beckett, with intention and love. At Lake Norman High School, Jennifer is known not only as a passionate math teacher and varsity swim and dive head coach, but as someone who recognizes possibility in every student and challenges them to believe in themselves — in the classroom, on the pool deck, and beyond. In recent weeks, Jennifer faced one of her most difficult chapters after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing surgery. What followed was an inspiring recovery shaped by faith, determination, and an outpouring of care from those around her. “This journey reminded me how precious life is and how powerful hope and prayer can be,” Jennifer shares. “I felt lifted up every step of the way.” Even during her healing process, Jennifer continued giving back. She remains head coach of the Winslow Bay Wahoos in the Lake Norman Swim League and leads worship at The Cove Church alongside her husband, who plays drums. “Whether I’m teaching, coaching, or worshiping, I want people to feel valued and encouraged,” she says. Jennifer believes this season has sharpened her sense of purpose, reminding us that true resilience is revealed not only in victories, but in the kindness and compassion we offer one another along the way.
Through her nonprofit, Bags of Hope, Nicole Fiehler ensures that hundreds of students each week have access to weekend meals, helping children in Lake Norman and beyond face food insecurity with stability and confidence. She provides comfort, support, and hope to families navigating challenging circumstances. Nicole’s dedication shows how one person’s vision and persistence can make a big difference—inspiring others, strengthening resilience, and creating brighter possibilities for children who need it most.
Pastor Andrea Smith lives her life with vision, boldness, and unwavering integrity. Thinking creatively and acting with intention, she places ministry at the heart of her work. Her presence reassures and empowers, making everyone she encounters feel acknowledged and valued. Andrea’s fearless approach to leadership reminds us that true influence comes from opening spaces for others to flourish and creating a community where everyone is welcomed and supported.
A beacon of hope and action, Diana Spradley channels her energy into serving those most in need. From combating human trafficking to leading jail and homeless ministries and supporting international missions, she pours herself fully into making a difference. Diana’s relentless commitment inspires those around her to act with courage, live intentionally, and recognize that each effort, big or small, can transform lives and strengthen the bonds of community.
Coral Riley exemplifies resilience and generosity in everything she does. By day she teaches; by night she juggles two businesses while working tirelessly to provide safe, affordable housing for homeless individuals and veterans. A single mother, she navigates life’s demands with grit and determination, proving that strength is measured by the ways we lift others. Coral’s example shows that everyday heroes don’t just inspire, they create lasting change in the communities they touch.

Believing that real change comes through listening and connection, Jameka reminds us that progress is built together—one conversation, one act of kindness, and one brave step at a time.
