Freeze the Flavor of Summer
Before those perfect peaches or berries disappear, toss extras in the freezer for smoothies, popsicles, or jam later. Pro tip: freeze on a baking sheet first so they don’t clump together.
Rescue Sunglasses With a Dab of Clear Nail Polish
Did your sunglasses take a beating this summer? Tighten wobbly shades with a drop of clear polish to temporarily hold things in place.
Give Your Patio Plants One Last Push
Deadhead and feed flowering plants for a late bloom burst. Move potted herbs into partial shade and start cutting and drying your favorites for fall cooking … it’s almost chili time!
Wash and Store Summer Gear
Beach towels/tarps, pool bags, and other outdoor summer gear should be cleaned and stored properly to avoid a messy, moldy discovery later. Toss in a cedar block, lavender sachet, or dryer sheets to keep things smelling fresh, reduce mustiness, and even repel some pests in the process!
Outdoor Tech-Safe Tips
While outdoor entertaining is in the August air, it’s still super-hot this time of year! Be careful with your electronics and heed these safety tips:
- Avoid charging devices when it’s very hot (generates more heat); fully charge inside, then unplug for outside use.
- Keep electronics dry and in full shade (umbrella, table, or sunshade)
- Use a laptop stand or tray (avoid laps/cushions)
- Avoid peak heat and have a fan directed at laptops, tv’s, etc.
- Take breaks inside to cool off every hour (you and your devices)
