This July 2-5, the lawn of the Lowe’s YMCA in Mooresville will once again be transformed into sacred ground—500 American flags will stand tall and proud, each one a powerful symbol of honor, sacrifice, and unwavering service. These flags don’t just wave in the summer breeze; they carry the names and legacies of those who have protected, defended, and upheld the freedoms we hold dear. There are also 15 blue and white flags honoring the 32 children who died at the hands of their caregivers in North Carolina in 2023—a way to increase awareness for the prevention of child abuse, an Exchange Club mission. Additionally, the first flags placed this year will be in honor of those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Each flag tells a story. Some honor the memory of the fallen—those who gave their lives in service to this great nation. Others stand in tribute to veterans, active-duty military, law enforcement, and first responders—heroes who have selflessly answered the call to serve. These individuals embody the ideals that define America: Freedom. Liberty. Justice for all. Ideals worth standing for, fighting for, and living for.

The 2025 Field of Flags Summer Celebration is more than an event—it’s a movement of patriotism, remembrance, and community unity. Organized by the Exchange Club of Mooresville/Lake Norman in proud partnership with the Lowe’s YMCA, it is a vivid expression of our collective pride, our gratitude, and our resolve to never forget those who protect the American way of life.

As you stand among these flags—red for valor, white for purity, blue for perseverance—feel the weight of what they represent. Let the pride swell in your chest, and the tears fall if they must. We are, after all, the land of the free, because of the brave. This is a glorious expression of gratitude—a fitting tribute to our protectors, our patriots, our citizens, and the very soul of our country. Come stand among the flags. See America with new eyes. And remember why she’s worth it.
