Logan Sandate, a Charlotte native and former college soccer player, is the founder of Girl Power Flag Football — the first all-girls NFL Flag league in the Lake Norman area. She’s passionate about creating opportunities for girls to compete, grow in confidence, and build community through sport.

Empowering Girls One Touchdown at a Time

In a world where girls are still finding their place in traditionally male-dominated sports, one woman is changing the game—literally.

Logan Sandate, a Charlotte native, former college soccer player, and now founder and league director of Girl Power Flag Football, is on a mission to build more than just a winning team. She’s creating a movement—one that fosters confidence, leadership, resilience, and connection among girls in the Lake Norman community.

This fall, Logan will launch the area’s first all-girls NFL FLAG league, a bold and exciting step toward empowering young athletes and reshaping how we think about girls in sports. Based in Mooresville, Girl Power Flag Football offers girls of all ages and ability levels a chance to compete, grow, and thrive in a supportive, fun, and team-oriented environment.

More Than a Game: The Power of Sports for Girls

Participation in youth sports is proven to help girls build lasting confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn the value of teamwork. But when those sports are often male-led or male-focused, many girls struggle to feel like they belong on the field. Logan is changing that.

By giving girls their own space to compete and lead, Girl Power Flag Football is doing more than running drills—it’s building self-esteem and showing young women they deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated in athletics.

“Sports taught me how to lead, how to fail and try again, and how to believe in myself,” Logan says. “I want to give that same experience to the next generation of girls.”

Leading From the Sidelines: Female Leadership in Youth Sports

As both a female founder and coach, Logan’s journey is inspiring. She not only recognized a gap in the community—lack of inclusive, girls-focused sports opportunities—but also stepped up to fill it. Her role goes beyond organizing games. She’s mentoring, motivating, and modeling what strong female leadership looks like in action.

In a field still dominated by male coaches and league directors, Logan’s leadership is a powerful example of what’s possible when women step forward to lead.

Uniting a Community Through Sport

Beyond the personal development benefits, Girl Power Flag Football is also building something bigger: community. Through weekly games and practices, families gather, friendships form, and local pride grows.

“Parents tell me how excited their daughters are to come to practice—not just to play, but to connect with their teammates,” Logan shares. “That’s what it’s really about—creating a place where these girls feel seen and supported.”

Balancing Entrepreneurship and Coaching

Launching a sports league is no small feat, especially while wearing the hats of both entrepreneur and coach. But Logan has found purpose and energy in the balancing act.

“Yes, it’s a lot,” she laughs. “But when I see these girls come off the field with huge smiles, it’s all worth it. I know we’re doing something meaningful.”

The Inaugural Season Begins September 2024

As Logan prepares for the league’s inaugural season this September, she invites families, sponsors, and supporters to get involved—whether by signing up, cheering from the sidelines, or simply spreading the word.

“We’re empowering girls and building confidence—one touchdown at a time,” Logan says. “And we’re just getting started.”
